The 2010 AILAE Summer School is organized by AILAE with the support of the Department of Studi Storici, Indirizzo Antropologico, Università Ca’ Foscari.

The AILAE Summer School consists of a 5 days intensive workshop held by internationally renowned experts. It provides a forum for bold discussions on key contemporary issues on cultural and literary studies, politics and aesthetics, gender studies and migration. Participants will have the opportunity to join in workshops aimed at elaborating the issues considered in the lectures.

This year’s edition, acknowledging the need for a wide and accessible international debate between European, Australian and American intellectual communities, focuses on dynamics and relationship between the most recent theoretic, cultural and artistic practices.

The following key speakers have been invited to the 2010 edition:

Paolo Bartoloni (National University of Ireland, Galway) Lidia Curti (Università L’Orientale, Italy)

Sneja Gunew (University of British Columbia, Canada) Ian McLean (University of Western Australia)

Aim and Contents

The 2010 Summer School is a week-long intensive seminar designed to bring  together a pool of international scholars, artists, graduate and postgraduate students to discuss key issues in contemporary art and theory. Lecturers will present relevant work, theory and artworks from a wide range of historical and geographical backgrounds, documenting and discussing current debates as well as their research. Scholars and artists interested in attending are welcome. Pre-session materials and reading suggestions will be made available to those enrolled in the program .

Structure

The course program is intensive including lectures, workshops, discussions. Sessions are conducted mostly in English and Italian thus prociency at spoken and written levels in at least one of the two languages is expected. The Dipartimento di Studi Storici of the University of Venice “Ca’ Foscari” will host this year event in its facilities located in:

Application and Selection

The AILAE Summer School is open to a maximum of 70 graduate students, artists and scholars with a strong background in contemporary debates surrounding at least some of the following subject areas: anthropology, philosophy, cultural studies, aesthetics, art theory, art practice and art history. To be admitted, applicants are required to either send or e-mail info@ailae.org the following documentation: Application form (download le doc from www.ailae.org);
a brief résumé;
one letter of recommendation by either your Department or thesis supervisor (please contact Registrar for more information info  / at  /  ailae  / dot  /  org).

Fees

Successful applicants will be charged a registration fee of € 99. Ca’ Foscari students will be charged € 85. Accomodation, travel expenses and meals are to be organized by participants. Ten scholarships are available for Ca’ Foscari students.
