Synopsis: Despite legal breakthroughs, the Indian society is still split into castes. Rejected by this system and the "out-of-castes", "parias", "untouchables", those who are regarded as impure by Brahmin ideology have to stay in a specific remote settlement in their city or village. Due to their status, they are devoted to the most "backward" tasks: cleaning of public areas, burials, leatherwork, etc. Rejected and disconsidered by the society they live in, carrying their burden from father to son, untouchables have named themselves: Dalits, which means the “oppressed ones”.
