The 4th Congress of the Asia and Pacific Network
A biennial event, the Congress was held in Paris on the 14th, 15th and 16th September 2011 at two locations: at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris Belleville on the 14th and 15th September and at the Conference Centre of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Rue de la Convention on the 16th of September.
You may listen to the audio recordings of the plenary sessions.
The Asia and Pacific Network links over 1,800 researchers and experts. The Congress is therefore one of the most important of the network’s activities, reflecting its vitality and interest to its members. The presentations, selected by a scientific committee, will expose a range of perspectives across the disciplines on the region. Such a platform for reflection should further reinforce the network of academic and professional expertise on Asia and the Pacific.
This fourth edition of the congress, open to a large audience on registration, will host over 600 people who will take part in some of the 55 workshops over three days. On this occasion, guests, French-speaking, European and foreign researchers, but also experts, political and social players will debate issues concerning Asia and the Pacific in a context of globalisation and the increasingly strong links that Europe is developing with the region. Analysing this region in its entirety, its development and its relationship with other parts of the world, crossing borders and broadening cultural and disciplinary perspectives is necessary for the better understanding of vast geo-cultural areas, home to 65% of the world’s population. The scientific programme of the conference provides the opportunity to take stock of existing knowledge and serves as a backdrop for exchanging ideas on new research areas and challenges.
The year 2011 is also the tenth anniversary of the Asia and Pacific Network. Established as a programme of the Foundation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, this CNRS unit aims to further expand the European network (MedAsiaNet-Eurasiane) and consolidate its project to become a key part of a federation of research on Asia and the Pacific.
