Vietnamese translation of 1999 ISEAS publication.
An anthropological study of a small village on the Red River Delta, North Vietnam, based on fieldwork undertaken between 1992 and 1996. Using material from French and Vietnamese archives, the history of the village is traced from its foundation in the 17th century. Internal politics, the power patterns of lineages and other social groupings, recent religious revival, and the impact of the doi moi policy are among factors highlighted in this firsthand account. |
